Packing and Storage Tips
How to Pack Your Self Storage Unit
When renting a storage unit, it might seem simple enough to pack your items and close the door. But a little strategic packing can help you get the most out of the space. It might be intimidating if you’ve never packed a storage unit before, so here are a few tips and tricks from our storage experts to get you started.
- Pack heavier items first: the best way to maximise the space in your unit is to place your heaviest and most bulky items against the walls and at the back of the unit, and then to work by stacking the rest of your boxes inwards.
- Make use of small spaces: once you have your larger items in, it’s a good idea to stuff any gaps or unused space with smaller items and ensure your belongings are packed in tightly to best utilise the available space.
- Pack vertically: if you plan to store any large furniture, such as couches, dressers, or even bed frames, ensure those items are using primarily vertical space. Standing bulky items on end helps maximize less-used vertical space and allows you to fit more inside your self-storage unit.
- Keep your most frequently used items close to the door: there’s nothing worse than rooting around desperately trying to find that one thing you’re looking for. Our best advice? Put those items you’ll frequently need access too, such as seasonal clothing, holiday items or important documents, at the front so they’re easily accessible. You can also use your map for extra efficiency when it comes to finding exactly what you need without wasting time.
